On 27th January, 1915, the 2nd East Lancashire battalion of 24 Brigade, 8th Division, left their billets in Red Barn and moved into trenches in Fleurbaix where they remained until relieved on 30th January. On 29th January, the day on which Harry Collier was killed, the battalion diary recorded that apart from the usual interchanging of sniping and shelling, nothing happened. |
